Himachal Pradesh - Abode of snow - Day3
We woke up late today had our breakfast and were ready to board Kalka Shimla Himalayan Queen at 12.10 pm. We were excited to ride at UNESCO World Heritage route. The train started 30 minutes late then scheduled time. It was soon moving through hills. The train crosses 102 tunnels, 889 bridges, 919 curves and 7 intermediate stations to reach Shimla. The 96 km route also elevates us from 656 mtrs (2152 fts) to 2076 mtrs (6811 fts) above sea level. The views are good but don’t expect to see snowclad hills.
Note: The Himalayan Queen train don’t got space to keep heavy baggage. We either have to keep them under seats (if they are not bulky) or near WC.
After clicking photographs at almost all the intermediate stations, we reached Shimla at around 6.30 pm. We didn’t booked any hotel in Shimla. A porter caught hold of us and convinced us to take to a budget hotel. We checked couple of hotel but they were out of our budget. He then took us to another hotel and after bit of bargaining, we booked a hotel for 3D/4N and car for 2 days sightseeing for Rs. 7100/-. The hotel was just 600 mtrs away from Mall road and room was good enough.
